4 things to check before scheduling a furnace repair
If your furnace is making strange or unusually loud noises, is blowing air but doesn’t seem to be heating, or isn’t coming on at all then you most likely need to call an HVAC professional. Many things can go wrong with a furnace that will leave you shivering in your home, however here are a few things you can try to resolve the problem immediately.
- Your thermostat acts as an ON/OFF switch for your HVAC equipment. Check that your t-stat is set to HEAT. If the display is dim or blank, replace the batteries.
- If your furnace isn't within sight of your breaker panel then you likely have an emergency switch, such as a light switch, that may have been turned off. Check that your emergency switch isn't in the Off position.
- Dirty filters can wreak havoc on your system. Check and replace the furnace filters if needed.
- Check for a tripped breaker & reset if needed. If it continues to trip, you'll need to schedule an HVAC professional to check the system.
